Winter Blues not Blahs

I have to admit I am suffering from a terrible case of the winter blues...and by winter blues I don't mean blahs...I mean I'm seeing blue, eating blue, dressing blue.  I think I'll call this my Blue Period.  It's January, it's cold outside, I would even say it's slightly dreary.  So a bright pop of blue, the shimmer of silver, the fresh white of a winter snow...all have me happy to get out of bed in the mornings.

Of course the seasonal tree is all blues, silvers and whites

Something fun for the kitchen

Blues and teals to set the table

I'm pretty sure if I buy any more converse my hubby will have a baby cow

I have girls coming over next week for Girl Scouts and have an idea of making some blue cupcakes with white icing.  I might even try out my new Kitchen Aid Mixer.  If they come out ok I might share them next week.  Last week I was feeling crafty and wanted to try making a skirt for the littlest.  The blue/winter theme played heavily into it.

I have never sewn a skirt so I was a little hesitant to get started.  But I found this tutorial on Pinterest and it was so easy I made a couple in just a couple hours.  You can find the tutorial at Dana Made It.

This weekend we have a few fun things on tap.  I'll be doing the Frostbite 15K in Richmond.  It will be a new race for me but I'm trying to embrace all the glory of this winter.  I just hope it doesn't live up to it's name!  There is also a newish brewery in Richmond we might check out.  I don't know about you but I'm not going to let the winter blahs get me :-)

The January Tree 2015

I spent the better part of yesterday getting the Christmas decorations down and the Winter decorations up.  January makes me think of white, blue and silver so the decorations lend themselves to just that.

Snowflakes and snowmen are the name of the game around here in January.

I actually got the table set in the theme of winter too.  This morning we had snowman pancakes to start the season off.

Ok the snowmen pancakes weren't perfectly shaped but they did taste good.

Now to get my two winter crafts done and spend the rest of the month in hibernation.

Snow Day!

We finally have enough snow here in Virginia to make it worth mentioning!  In my line of work (medical field) there is no such thing as a SNOW DAY.  But that doesn't stop me from enjoying the white stuff when I AM at home.  And by enjoy it I mean cuddling up on the couch with a glass of wine and a blanket and snuggling with Mr. Busy Bryant. What?  You didn't think I really meant get out IN the snow did you? ;-)

How do you spend a snow day?

Winter Wreath

I put up all of my winter decorations and felt like something was missing.  The front door needed a little extra pizzaz.  I figured a winter wreath would do the trick.  Within 20 minutes I had my new wreath and the just the pizzaz I was looking for.  You just need some fabric, an old wire coat hanger, scissors and maybe a tape measure.  I used pinking shears to add some fun to the fabric.

The snow flakes really made it feel like winter

Just form the wire hanger into a circle

This measured 44 x 6 inches

And then I cut them into various size strips

Just tie the fabric onto the wire hanger

Voila
